Sticky Coelogyne is a medium sized, tree-dwelling or
rock-dwelling orchid with clustered, narrow ovoid or spindle-shaped,
grooved, glossy pseudobulbs carrying 2, lanceshaped, pleated, finely
nerved, pointed leaves with a tapering, grooved stalked base. The plant
blooms on an erect, 2-4 flowered, 10-15 cm long, slender, very slightly
fractiflex axis, racemose inflorescence. The inflorescence has
deciduous floral bracts and carryies simultaneously opening, fragrant
flowers. Flowers are white, tinged with brown and with yellow spots on
lip. Dorsal sepal is oblong, about 23 x 7 mm, tip blunt; lateral sepals
slightly narrower, about 5 mm wide, below slightly keeled. Petals are
similar to lateral sepals; lip ovate, about 20 x 15 mm, 3-lobed;
lateral lobes erect, nearly ovate, tip blunt; mid-lobe almost ovate,
7-8 x about 5 mm, tip tapering. Column is slightly arching, about 12
mm, winged on both sides; wings widened toward column tip, about 1.5 mm
wide on one side in upper part. Sticky Coelogyne is found in East
Himalaya to China and SE Asia, at altitudes of 700-2000 m. Flowering:
September-November.
